The Name Of The Rose – El Escorial

Inspired by the famous novel of Umberto Eco you will be transported back in time and immersed in a history few know.

The scene is the forbidding and austere palace and royal monastery of El Escorial, built by King Philip II of Spain, who wanted a building in which to bury his warlord father, Charles V, the Holy Roman Emperor. Charles had ruled his vast empire “on which the sun never set” with a “glove made of iron” …and made many enemies.

As fate would have it, a mysterious death has occurred ahead of your visit and you have been called upon to solve it and find what dastardly hand is behind it.

As in the book, the extraordinary library (indeed “one of the greatest libraries in all Christendom”) takes centre stage as the teams work against the clock to find the clues hidden in the palace, monastery and grounds to discover the ancient secret and culprit.

Teams need to solve the riddles and navigate the maze of El Escorial’s ancient passageways and labyrinth of buildings facing demons, pestilence, traitors, heretics and the ghostly guardians of Catholic Spain.

A great fun team activity and perfect getaway from the capital. El Escorial is not only one of the most impressive buildings in Spain it is also a UNESCO World Heritage site situated 45 minutes from Madrid in the shadow of the Guadarrama Mountains.

A great team outing and event – followed by a hearty Castilian lunch in one the town’s oldest – indeed one of Spain¡s oldest restaurants…

Comes with day entrance, team transfers and excellent Castilian lunch with wine… and many stories…
